To Catch an Orc with Flavor of the Lady – January 5, 2020

I took the Silvans up against the next scenario right after my win on The Fords of Isen.

Orc Cave selected as Mountain location at setup.

Starting hand: The Tree People, Daughter of the Nimrodel, Defender of the Naith, O Lórien!, Naith Guide, Mirror of Galadriel

Turn 1: Island Amid Perils drawn. Play O Lórien! on Galadriel. No one quests. Methedras added to the staging area for 5 threat. Threat increases to 34 for questing unsuccessfully. Travel to Orc Cave and discard Broken Lands from encounter deck. Refresh, threat is 35, and time on quest is 1.

Turn 2: Henamarth Riversong drawn. Naith Guide played with O Lórien choosing Celeborn to quest without exhausting. Defender of the Naith and Henamarth Riversong played. Celeborn and the new allies quest for 7. Prowling Wolf added to the staging area for 5 threat. 2 progress on the active location. Wolf engages and defender defends, shadow discards O Lórien, and no damage dealt. Haldir and Henamarth attack and kill the wolf. Refresh, threat is 36, time counter removed revealing Orc Skirmisher, Take Cover!, and Mugash’s Lair. Henamarth, Haldir, and defender take a damage from Take Cover.

Turn 3: Protector of Lórien drawn. Exhaust Galadriel to draw Galadriel’s Handmaiden and lower threat to 35. Celeborn, guide, and Daughter of the Nimrodel quest for 6. Prowling Wolf added to the staging area.

I concede as it is becoming obvious that I’m going to lose a hero and fall too far behind.

I looked at this playthrough nearly 3 years later trying to figure out why I conceded. It was that first few card reveals for the last time counter being removed. Take Cover softened up many of my allies, Orc Skrimisher is going to engage and the engagement effect will kill at least one of my allies. Then I would have to defend 2 enemies with the Prowling Wolf having +2 attack. It was just too much too early before I was set up much.
