Steward’s Fear with Mono-Tactics 3 – July 31, 2019

Introduction

Trying again to quest well enough to make progress in the quest. The change from battle and siege questing to willpower has been rough.

Play by Play

Starting hand: Eagles of the Misty Mountains, Gandalf, Knights of the Swan, Feint, Rivendell Blade, Honour Guard.

Turn 1: Dagger of Westernesse drawn. Play Knights of the Swan and Rivendell Blade on Legolas. Eowyn quests for 4. Unwelcome Discovery reveals a clue card from the underworld deck which is discarded. Surge card is Underworld Dissident. 1 progress is placed on The 4th Star. Dissident engages and Beregond defends. Shadow adds 2 attack for 4 total and Beregond takes no damage. Legolas kills him and places 2 progress on The 4th Star. Refresh and increase threat to 26.

Turn 2: Arod drawn. Eagles of the Misty Mountains played. Eowyn and Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 6. City Streets added and surge adds Sewer. 1 progress made on The 4th Star for 4 total. Refresh and increase threat to 27.

Turn 3: Dagger of Westernesse number 2 drawn. Arod and Honour Guard played. Eowyn and Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 6. Sewer added and threat increased to 29 for questing unsuccessfully. Refresh and increase threat to 30.

Turn 4: Gandalf drawn. No cards played during planning. Same questers for 6. Underworld Dissident added and threat increases to 35 for questing unsuccessfully. Dissident engaged and Beregond defends. Shadow card has no effect and Beregond takes no damage. Legolas kills the dissident placing a progress on the 4th Star exploring it and puts a resource on the quest. Pickpocket added to the staging area from under it. Exhaust Arod to place a progress on the first Sewer. Refresh and increase threat to 36.

Turn 5: Defender of Rammas drawn. Gandalf played and threat reduced by 5 to 31. Eowyn, Eagles of the Misty Mountains, and Gandalf quest for 10. Underworld Dissident added bringing staging area threat to 14. Threat increases to 35 for questing unsuccessfully. Travel to City Streets. Pickpocket and dissident engage. Feint the pickpocket and dissident’s attack defended by Beregond. No shadow effect so Beregond blocks the 4 attack (boosted by the 2 Sewer locations) and takes no damage. Legolas attacks and kills the pickpocket, puts 2 progress City Streets to explore them. This puts a 2nd resource on the quest. Exhausting Arod to put a 2nd progress on the first Sewer. Gandalf is discarded, refresh, and increase threat to 36.

Turn 6: Blade of Gondolin drawn. Dagger of Westernesse each played on Legolas and Beregond. Also Defender of Rammas played. Eowyn and Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 6. Market Square added and threat increases to 39 for questing unsuccessfully. Travel to the second Sewer with no progress. Dissident attacks and Beregond defends. Shadow discards my hand but no damage dealt by the enemy’s 4 attack. Legolas kills the dissident and places 2 progress on the Sewer in the active location and exhaust Arod to place the last progress on the other. This adds a 3rd resource to the quest and Secret Map to the staging area. Refresh and increase threat to 40.

Turn 7: Blade of Gondolin drawn. No cards played during planning. Eowyn and Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 6. Beregond gains Local Trouble. 3 progress placed on Sewer exploring it and placing last resource for stage 1B. Umbar Assassin added from under Sewer. Up in Flames added to the staging area and Roots of Mindolluin added as the active location. Optionally engage Umbar Assassin dealing 3 damage to Legolas but preventing 1 with Honour Guard. Umbar Assassin archery damage dealt to Eagles of the Misty Mountains. Assassin attacks and Defender of Rammas defends. Shadow discards all resource and assassin kills the defender. Legolas and Knights of the Swan attack and kill the assassin placing 3 progress on Roots of Mindolluin with Arod. Beregond exhausts increasing threat to 41 to get Secret Map Clue then activate it to explore Roots. A Prisoner clue added to the staging area. Up in Flames mills 1, refresh, and threat increases to 43 from readying Beregond.

Turn 8: Knights of the Swan drawn and played. Eowyn and Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 6. Eowyn gets a local trouble and questing is successful. Travel to Market Square and Legolas exhausts to claim A Prisoner clue and put 2 resources on the quest. Plot mills 2, refresh and thread increases to 45 thanks to readying Eowyn.

Turn 9: Sterner than Steel drawn. No cards played during planning. Same questers and threat increases to 46. Sewers added to the staging area but Market Square explored putting a 3rd resource on the quest. Travel to Sewer. Plot mills 3, refresh, and increase threat to 48.

Turn 10: Eagles of the Misty Mountains quest for 2. A Knife in the Back randomly selects Eagles to discard and attack a hero. Eowyn takes a damage after Honour Guard prevents 1. No threat gained and no progress made. Plot mills 4, refresh, and increase threat to 49. If I don’t draw Favor of the Valar it’s game over.

Turn 11: Vassal of the Windlord drawn and I will threat out this turn no matter what.
