Peril in Pelargir with Mono-Tactics – Attempt 2 – April 11, 2019

Introduction

This is second game where I wrote down everything I did during the game. It’s more free form than my current format with all the phases and action windows specified. You can read the first attempt here.

My plan back then was to build one deck and play that deck for the cycle and tweak as I went. I did not have a full card pool, but I used whatever I had available at the time. I wanted to build a deck that used cards I liked and worked rather than confine myself to any sort of progression. I started with Mono-Tactics since Tactics Eowyn was new to me at the time. I found the idea of a Tactics deck that could quest exciting. Plus, I remembered hearing about Battle and Siege questing for this cycle.

Play by Play

Turn 1: I play Gondorian Shield on Beregond. I also play Knight of Minas Tirith then engage and kill Harbor Thug. Eowyn quests for one. Pickpocket discarded by The Leaping Fish then enters the staging area. Zealous Traitor revealed next. Threat raised by 4 to 32. Pickpocket attacks Beregond undefended for 1 and Gondorian Discipline discarded to forceed effect. Beregond defends vs traitor blocking all damage. Aragorn kills pickpocket.

Turn 2: I draw Feint. Play Vassal of the Windlord. Eowyn and Vassal quest for 4. Collateral damage discard to The Leaping Fish forced effect. City Street surges into Market Square for 5 threat. Activate Eowyn’s ability to increase quest power to 13 clearing The Leaping Fish and adding to progress to the quest. Travel to City Street. Beregond defends the traitor’s attack for no damage. Aragorn and Knight of Minas Tirith kill the traitor.

Turn 3: I draw a Defender of Rammas. I play it and Bofur. Eowyn, Vassal, and Knight quest for 7. Harbor Thug added to the staging area bringing threat to 5. City Street cleared but no quest progress. Harbor Thug engaged and defended with Beregond. Aragorn kills the thug. Bofur exhausts drawing a Dagger of Westernesse.

Turn 4: I draw another Knight of Minas Tirith. I play the dagger on Aragon. Eowyn, Vassal, Defender, and Knight quest for 8. Treachery adds Harbor Storehouse to the staging area for 4 threat. I make 4 progress clearing stage 1. Alcaron’s Scroll added to the staging area. I travel to Market Square paying one resource from Beregond. Aragorn exhausted to regain the scroll. Bofur exhausted to draw a weapon attachment but does not hit any.

Turn 5: I draw a Rivendell Bow. I play a Knight of Minas Tirith. Quest with everyone except Aragon, Beregond, and Bofur for 11. City Street surge into Pelargir Docks bringing Staging Area threat to 7. This clears Market Square and puts 3 progress on the quest. I travel to City Street. Bofur fails to draw a weapon.

Turn 6: I drew a Dagger of Westernesse and play it on Aragon. Quest with everyone except Aragorn and Beregond for 13. Market Square added to the staging area bringing threat to 8. City Street is cleared and 3 progress placed on the quest for a total of 6. I travel to Pelargir Docks and refresh.

Turn 7: I draw and play Winged Guardian. Quest with everyone except Aragorn and Winged Guardian for 14. Umbar Assassin added to the staging area of bringing threat to 8. Pelargir Docks are cleared. I add 3 more progress to the quest bringing the total to 9. I travel to Market Square spending a resource from Aragorn. then optional engage the Assassin dealing 3 damage to Aragorn. The scroll attaches to the assassin. Bofur and a Knight of Minas Tirith take a damage from the assassin’s archery. Winged Guardian defends vs the assassin. Shadow card redirects 1 damage to Aragorn. I spend a resource to keep Winged Guardian in play. Aragorn attacks and kills the assassin. The scroll goes the staging area.

Turn 8: I draw a Secret Vigil. I exhaust Beregond to get the scroll back. Quest with everyone except Aragorn and guardian for 13. Local Trouble condition added to Aragorn during staging. Market Square cleared and add 11 Progress to the quest completing stage 2. Harbor Thug added to the staging area for revealing stage 3A. I travel to Harbor Storehouse. Harbor Thug engages and Winged Guardian defends for no damage. I pay a resource to keep the guardian. Aragorn kills the thug but have to raise threat by 1 for local trouble.

Turn 9: I draw and play Legolas. I play the Rivendell Bow on Legolas. Eowyn, Aragorn, and Bofur quest for 8. Lossnach Bandit added to staging area and attacks. Winged Guardian defends taking no damage. I spend the resource to keep it in play. Shadow is discard an attachment. I choose a dagger. Harbor Storehouse cleared and 1 progress placed on quest. Bandit engages taking two of a Eowyn’s three resources. Beregond defends against the bandit’s attack for no damage. Shadow card is lose an attachment, and I choose to lose the other dagger. Legolas and a knight kill the bandit. I draw a Dúnedain Hunter from Legolas. Refresh puts me at 43 threat.

Turn 10: I draw a [Gondorian Shield] (/card/06005). Same questers as last turn for 8. Harbor Thug added to staging area and attacks. Defender of Rammas defends taking no damage. Six progress placed on the quest for a total of 7. Thug engages and attacks. Beregond defends taking no damage. Legolas kills the thug and I draw a Feint. Refresh to 45 threat.

Turn 11: I draw a Dagger of Westernesse. Legolas, Eowyn, Bofur, and Aragorn all quest for 9. Zealous Traitor added to staging area. He attacks and Defender of Rammas defends taking no damage. I add 7 progress to the quest for a total of 14. Traitor engages killing all my allies except Legolas. I have to shuffle the encounter deck for a shadow card. Beregond defends taking no damage. Refresh to 47 threat.

Turn 12: I draw Gondorian Discipline. I play a dagger on Aragorn just in case. I quest with everyone except Beregond for 7. Thug is added to the staging area and attacks. Beregond defends and takes no damage. I place 5 progress on the quest to win with 19 total at 48 threat.

Score = 48 + 0 + 5 + 12*10 – 3 = 170
