Introduction
I made some minor changes to the deck. I took out Celebrian’s Stone, a Hasty Stroke, and Horn of Gondor to make room for 3 copies of Power of Orthanc. I really think it’s necessary because of In Need of Rest.

Setup: Boar Clan Warrior in the staging area. Old South Road is the active location. Threat is 27.
Starting Hand: Stand and Fight, Gondorian Spearman, Sneak Attack, Westfold Horse-breeder, Power of Orthanc, Veteran Axehand
Turn 1: Feint drawn. (Just now realized that I’ve been playing the forced effect wrong. He has to be engaged to get a shadow.) Westfold Horse-breeder played. Eowyn, Theodred, and breeder quest for 6, and Eowyn gets a resource. Wild Men of Dunland attached to the quest. Surge adds Plains of Enedwaith for 4 threat. Discard axehand for an additional progress for a total of three on the active location. Play Power of Orthanc to discard Wild Men, and threat is 29. Warrior engages and after shadow dealt sneak attack Spearman. Spearman defends, deals a damage, no shadow, and dies. Eomer attacks the warrior for 5 killing it. Refresh, threat is 30, discard hand, draw Feint and Firefoot, and time on quest is 2.
Turn 2: Veteran Axehand drawn. Play Firefoot on Eomer. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5, Eowyn gains a resource. Hithaeglir Stream added to the staging area for 5 threat. Discard Veteran Axehand to explore the active location. Travel to the Stream. Refresh, threat is 31, and time on quest is 1.
Turn 3: Hasty Stroke and The White Council drawn. Eowyn, breeder, and Theodred quest for 6. Dunland Chieftain added to staging area for 5 threat total. 1 progress on the active location. Optionally engage the Chieftan. Discard 1 encounter card and fortunately it is a location. Feint the Chieftan. Eomer attacks twice dealing 4 damage using the ready option on The White Council. Refresh, threat is 32, discard hand, draw Steward of Gondor and Gondorian Spearman, and time on quest is 2.
Turn 4: Sneak Attack and Gandalf drawn. Play [Gondorian Spearman] (/card/01029). Play Steward of Gondoron Eowyn and exhaust it. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5 with Eomer getting a resource. Another Dunland Chieftan added to the staging area for 5 threat resulting in no progress. Optionally engage second chieftain and discard encounter card. Berserker discarded and put into play engaged. Spearman defends the vs 1st Chieftan dealing a damage, shadow adds 1 attack, and dies. 2nd Chieftan attack defended by breeder, shadow adds 1 attack, and breeder dies. Berserker attack undefended, shadow gives an additional attack, 2 damage assigned to Eowyn. Second attack undefended, no shadow, and 2 damage assigned to Theodred. Eomer attacks for 7 at the Berseker and exhaust Firefoot to assign 2 extra damage to the first Chieftan killing both. Refresh, threat is 33, and time on quest is 1.
Turn 5: Blue Mountain Trader and Stand and Fight drawn. During resource phase action window, play Sneak Attack with Gandalf dealing 4 damage to the Chieftan. Then play Gandalf again in planning to kill the Chieftan. Play Blue Mountain Trader and Stand and Fight to being back Gondorian Spearman. Gandalf, Eowyn, and Theodred quest for 9 with Eomer gaining a resource. Another stream added to the staging area for 5 threat total. Active location explored and 1 progress placed on the quest. Travel to stream #2. Refresh, threat 34, discard nonexistent hand, draw Westfold Horse-breeder and Beorn, and time on quest is 2.
Turn 6: Westfold Horse-breeder and Power of Orthanc drawn. Play both Westfold Horse-breeders and get 2 Rohan Warhorses. Play Rohan Warhorse on Eomer. Breeders, Eowyn, and Theodred quest for 7 with Eomer getting a resource. Low on Provisions kills all allies and 1 damage to Theodred and Eomer. Discard Beorn to get 4 progress on the active location. Travel to the plains. Refresh, threat is 35, discard hand, draw Wandering Took and Guard of the Citadel, time in quest is 2.
Turn 7: No card drawn. Play Guard of the Citadel and Wandering Took. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5 with Eowyn getting a resource. Boar Clan Stalker added to the staging area for 3 threat resulting in active location being explore and 2 total progress on the quest. Stalker engages, Took defends, shadow adds 1 attack, no damage dealt. Eomer attacks and kills the Stalker. Refresh, threat is 36, and time on the quest is 1.
Turn 8: Blue Mountain Trader drawn and played. Eowyn, Theodred, and guard quest for 6. Berseker added to the staging area for 2 threat resulting in 6 total quest progress. Berserker engages, attacks, trader defends, no shadow, and 1 damage dealt. Eomer attacks and kills the enemy. Refresh, threat is 37, discard nonexistent hand, draw A Test of Will and Guard of the Citadel, and time on quest is 2.
Turn 9: Steward of Gondor drawn. Same questers for 6 with Theodred getting a resource. Hithaeglir Stream added to the staging area for 3 threat. Discard Steward to get 10 total progress on the quest. Travel to the Stream. Refresh, threat is 38, and time is 1.
Turn 10: Veteran Axehand and Faramir drawn. Play Faramir and Veteran Axehand. Eowyn, Theodred, guard, and Took quest for 7. Hills of Dunland added to the staging area for 2 threat. Exhaust Faramir and discard guard in hand to boost willpower to 12. Active location is explored and total progress on the quest is 16. Travel to hills and draw Dwarven Tomb. Play Dwarven Tomb to get Stand and Fight then play it to put Beorn in play. Refresh, threat is 39, discard hand, draw Wandering Took and The White Council, and time is 2.
Turn 11: Unexpected Courage drawn. Play Unexpected Courage on Eomer. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5 with Theodred getting a resource. Boar Clan Warrior added to the staging area for 2 threat. Active location explored. Warrior engages, attacks, trader defends, no shadow (In Need of Rest discarded, Yay!), and trader dies. Eomer attacks and kills the enemy. Refresh, threat is 40, and time is 1.
Turn 12: Snowbourn Scout drawn. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5. Off Track and 2 Dunland Ambushes whiff and finally Plains of Enedwaith added to the staging area for 2 threat. Stage 1b completed. Mounts and allies except Beorn discarded. Boar Clan Stalker put into play engaged, draw Stand and Fight, and stalker gets a resource. Beorn defends the stalker’s attack, no shadow (another In Need of Rest discarded!), and no damage dealt. Eomer attacks for 5 twice with Unexpected Courage to kill the Stalker. Stage 2b completed. Chief Turch engaged and time on 3b is 5. Refresh, threat is 41, and time on quest is 4.
Turn 12: Rohan Warhorse drawn and play on Eomer. Play Wandering Took and Snowbourn Scout putimg a progress on the active location. Eowyn and Theodred quest for 5 with Theodred getting a resource. Frenzied Attack revealed drawing Firefoot and getting surge. Off Track attached to plains in staging area. Dunland Ambush attached to active location from surge. Next Surge attaches Wild Men of Dunland to the quest. Finally 2nd Plains of Enedwaith added to the staging area for 4 threat. Active location gets 1 progress for a total of 2. Turch attacks, scout defends, shadows add 3 attack, and scout dies. No point in attacking since Turch can’t leave play. Refresh, threat is 42, and time on quest is 2.
Turn 13: Stand and Fight drawn and play it to get Snowbourn Scout back into play putting a progress on the second plains. Deal a damage to Took for Wild Men. Play Firefoot on Eomer. Eowyn quests for 4. Hills of Dunland added to the staging area for 6 threat. Threat is 44. Turch attacks, scout defends, shadow adds 1 attack, and scout dies. Stand and Fight scout again placing another progress on 2nd plains exploring it. Refresh, threat is 45, last time counters removed. Turch attacks, scout defends, shadow adds 2 attack, and scout dies. Quest won by surving last attack.
Score 135 = 13 * 10 + 6 hero damage + 0 dead heroes – 1 victory
Postmortem
I think Power of Orthanc is a good addition to the deck. It helped keep a an early wild men from putting pressure on the deck. Experience might be skewed since it my first game without getting In Need of Rest on a hero but at least the deck now has another answer for it.
