Across the Ettenmoors with a Revised Card Pool Minimum Purchase Deck – March 12, 2023

Introduction

I decided that my plan would be to rely on my low starting threat (that is now 4 lower thanks to Fend Off Despair) and quest hard the entire game. The goal is to minimize gaining Losing Time burdens. I don’t think I can win in 3 rounds, but getting only 2 wouldn’t be too bad.

The deck is still Leadership heavy, but I did make some changes. My previous list worked well for questing considering I put up over 50 willpower on the last round. I swapped Beorn, all three Guardians of Arnor, 1 copy of Celebrian’s Stone, Star Brooch, 1 copy of Sword of Numenor, and 1 copy of Valiant Sacrifice for Scout Ahead, 3 A Test of Will, a second copy of Gleowine, a third copy of Daughter of the Nimrodel, Galadhrim Weaver, and Faramir. I wanted to get more willpower sooner and an early Faramir definitely part of that plan. Scout Ahead is my backup plan to hopefully remove a Losing Time. I think this is possible since Easy mode removes a fair number of cards. I’ve had to reshuffle the encounter deck in other scenarios this campaign.

Postmortem

I went into this quest planning to minimize how many Losing Time burdens I got. Questing hard to do so while relying on my low starting threat worked! I can imagine it going slightly better with getting Fend Off Despair as my second side quest to clear and playing Determined to ready Denethor or another character. Still I won in one try and only got 2 burdens so it seems pretty good to me. The quest is definitely more tense when you really have to minimize the amount of turns to avoid gaining too many of the burdens. If I was playing with a full card pool I’d probably play a Victory Display deck to use Scout Ahead and Out of the Wild to remove them from the encounter deck. That would be a much longer and more involved game though. Next Treachery of Rhudaur is going to be interesting. Hopefully the campaign doesn’t reward you for completing more of the initial side quests. I know from my previous experience I’ll only get to complete one of them.
