Core Campaign Passage Through Mirkwood – February 6, 2022

Overview

For New Player February, I decided to take a break from Vengence of Mordor and start the new core set campaign. I often recommend the Back to Basics – A Killer Deck using Core Set Cards to new players on r/lotrlcg. I ran across warlock000’s alterative tri-sphere core set deck some time ago and have long been intrigued by it. Primarily because it uses both Steward of Gondor and Gloin + Self Preservation for resource acceleration. We’ll see if the updated version stand make it all the way through the campaign.

Postmortem

Wow, did the quest come out swinging against me! I thought about conceding when I scryed Ungoliant’s Spawn. Good thing I was low enough in threat to have a couple turns to find a solution. I got pretty lucky finding the one copy of Beorn. I am glad that I didn’t have to fight Ungoliant’s Spawn twice. I think I got the worse burden card as a result though. It’s a good thing Journey Along the Anduin has a big encounter deck. I might not see that burden at all.
