Temple of Doom with Gandalf Mines Temple of Doom – August 29, 2021

Overview

I had the thought after last week that a Council of the Wise deck might be a good answer for the Shrine

I’m back with a mining deck against Temple of Doom. I’ had the thought while playing this quest that a Council of the Wise deck might be a good answer for the Shrine of Sauron quest stage. I tried to come up with a Council of the Wise deck with Lothiriel, Eomer, and Thengel line up. I found the number of good Rohan allies that fit were too few. There were also too many key cards that would have made it difficult to get set up and running well quickly at one copy.

I made a mining deck that could mostly run mostly single copies of cards instead. I thought too that spirit Dain would be the answer to my defense issues for the powered up Easterling enemies. If found with this game, this quest is a lot like The Crossing of Poros. The challenges you face can vary game to game and deckbuiling is a challenge for all the different possibilities.

Quick note on the deck below, Firyal is the Messenger of the King for more willpower and some encounter control. I’ve had some issues with Drgncards and putting in a MotK hero. I just don’t pick it in the decklist anymore. Besides this deck could use others for MotK, but I don’t think they’re a good fit for this quest

Postmortem

That is game. Ever My Heart Rises is my only threat reduction. I didn’t have too much trouble with threat in my earlier games, but I had much better starting questing power. Attack power was certainly slow in coming online too. I was either putting Faramir or Gimli into play next turn. Gimli I thought would help a little with both questing and attack but probably not enough. This scenario is reminding me a lot of The Crossings of Poros. You need a little bit of everything and quickly. Not my strong suit as a player since I like decks that build up to do something really cool and interesting. Still I feel like even with a strong defender healing is important for these enemies.
