The River Running with Hit and Run the Easterlings – July 18, 2021

Overview

OK lesson learned from last game, don’t advance when Easterling Pursuit will trigger at the end of the round. I also managed to get a better starting hand. Most importantly, Strider and Golden Shield are there so Herubrand can quest and defend every round. Eomer also got Firefoot right away. The encounter deck cooperated with enemies coming out early. Eomer was killing an enemy in staging usually. If not, Herubrand could defend with 8-11 defense. Then Firefoot’s ability usually could take out 2 enemies.

The Easterling Captain made an appearance right before advancing to stage 2, but actually wasn’t too bad. He didn’t engage right away even after advancing. Eomer could keep peeling attachments off him thanks to his staging area attack or Firefoot after I had to engage him. I also drew 2 Feints during the game for nice emergency button.

I win! This time the timing worked out with quest advancement so I wasn’t overwhelmed. I had Feint most of the game if I got too many enemies. Herubrand had Strider and Golden Shield so he could quest and defend. Eomer was killing an enemy in staging most rounds and often one engaged with me. I also think I made the smart play in killing the Easterling enemy in staging to also kill the one engaged with when I could have just killed the Captain instead. He wasn’t a threat to Herubrand and Eomer could possibly have killed him or at least kept peeling attachments off with Firefoot. I’m glad to finally move on from this quest. I know from playing the next quest in multiplayer that low threat and avoiding engagement will be key for the next quest as well. This deck might do well for it too.
