The River Running with Mono Tactics Pseudo Questing – June 13, 2021

Overview

I decided that I wanted to try updating the mono Tactics deck that I used for the Against the Shadow cycle. I thought it might be a good match considering how combat heavy the quest is. I made a crucial play mistake unfortunately. I didn’t travel to River Running location when I could have. This kept me from optionally engaging enemies. I would have had a much easier time of questing since I could have killed the captain using Grimbeorn and Eowyn the turn he came out otherwise. I also wasn’t expecting back to back Riders of Rhun adding 4 threat to the staging area each. I’ll have to try it again to see if making sure to travel to River Running makes a difference this next week.

5.3 Engagement

  • Easterling Captain
  • Rider of Rhun x2
  • Easterling Radier

6 Combat Phase

  • 5 archery assigned as follows
    • Eowyn 2
    • Pippin 1
    • Meneldor 1 (destroyed)
    • Eagle Emissary 1 (destroyed)
  • Meneldor +2 progress on River Running (2 / 5)

That’s game. I’ll have to lose a hero to an undefended attack. Plus I lost my 2 questing allies. I think I could have gotten rid of the Captain thanks to Grimbeorn’s response and Eowyn’s ability if I had traveled to the River Running. Engaging 4 enemies in one turn was just too much.
