Overview
I had heard many times in the community how long this quest could take. A year or so ago, I watched Dave’s marathon playthrough of it. I didn’t want to have an epic marathon game as many of the quests in the cycle have already seem pretty long to me. I decided that I wanted to use Marcelf’s Barliman and Robin deck because the late game play is just to recur Risk Some Light for control of the encounter deck. This seemed ideal to filter through for the Loot objectives.
I added some victory display tech as the Vision of the Palantir scenario analysis pointed out Fram’s Shade doesn’t have victory points on it. Then you can add it to the victory display before Stage 3 and circumvent having to get the third Loot objective and traveling the Cursed Tomb at all. I managed to stall on Stage 1 using Risk some Light hunting for the shade. When I had about 10 cards unrevealed not counting the 6 I had filtered to the bottom, I quested against Scout Ahead making sure I’d complete it. I also had the last Out of the Wild in had to check the last 5 if Scout Ahead didn’t add it. Scout Ahead did find and add the Shade. At that point, I just needed to discover 2 Loot cards and quest through the last 2 stages. I had a strong board state up at that point and cruised through to the end on turn 11.
